Forbes List: Richest Man In The World In 2010? Not Bill Gates

by The Smarter Wallet on March 24, 2010

The richest CEO paychecks pale in comparison to what these money moguls earn.

For those inspired by the awe-inspiring monetary achievements of others, this one is for you. Apparently, Bill Gates is no longer the richest person in the world anymore (see CNN.com or Forbes.com). The richest guy is now a mogul from Mexico named Carlos Slim Helu, a telecommunications titan with an extremely fat $53.5 billion net worth. Bill Gates is now sitting at #2 with $53 billion. What? That’s just a flimsy $500,000,000 behind the richest guy. And to think that Gates had it pegged much higher than that some ages ago.

Richest Man In The World In 2010? Not Bill Gates!

Actually from this page, you can see how Gates’ net worth has yo-yoed over time:

In 2000, he was worth 60 billion dollars.
In 2001, net worth was 59 billion dollars.
In 2002, net worth was 53 billion dollars.
In 2003, net worth was at 41 billion dollars. (ugh, how did this happen?)
In 2004, net worth was at $47 billion dollars.
In 2005, net worth was at $46 billion dollars.
In 2006, net worth was at $50 billion dollars.
In 2007, net worth was at $59 billion dollars.
In 2008, net worth was at $57 billion dollars.
In 2010, net worth was at $53 billion dollars.

No matter what the rankings say, Bill Gates will always be my #1 geek idol. 🙂

Yeah! Not Bill Gates. The richest person is a Mexican. He has a telecommunication concern. But his assets are not so much more! but…why does not my name stand on that list???? =)

Gates has been pretty actively donating chunks of his fortune to charity (including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) – so it’s not a huge shock that at some point, another billionaire would push past him into the top spot.

I think the CNN has an omission in their list. C. Montgomery Burns is nowhere to be found.

Someone like Carlos Slim Helu is a great man too, but I love Bill Gates. Gates, you are a great man.
