Here’s one credit card rewards program that’s worth checking out when you decide to compare credit card offers.
Our Discover Credit Card Review: Get Cash Back
A few weeks ago, I received a credit card offer in the mail. This surprised me, because it was the first offer I’ve seen in a long time. It came from Discover, so it encouraged me to check out the different types of credit cards available from this popular card company. Discover is synonymous with rewards credit cards, and here’s what they have on their roster:
Discover More
Discover More is a card with a lot of benefits. If your credit looks great, you can transfer your balance and look forward to a 0% APR for 12 months on this 0% balance transfer credit card. For purchases, you’ll receive a 0% APR for 6 months. When the intro periods expire, the rate will be readjusted to a low 11.99% variable, depending on your credit record.
There’s no annual fee and you’ll also earn rewards. One of the best rewards is the $50 free money you’ll get once you become a customer and start making purchases on your card. Also, the 5% Cashback Bonus allows you to earn on various spending categories like gas, groceries, restaurants, etc. You can also earn from 5% to 20% on the purchases you make through ShopDiscover, the company’s online mall. It’s also possible to earn up to 1% in cash back bonuses on all other types of purchases.
Finding a way to spend those bonuses shouldn’t be difficult when Discover More has 100 cash back bonus retail partners in the mix. You can redeem your rewards through these retail partners: you can select from restaurants like Outback Steakhouse and Olive Garden, or merchants such as Lowe’s, Land’s End, or Macy’s.
You can also shop with the security of the $0 fraud liability guarantee and alerts that can warn you of potential fraud.
Escape by Discover Card
This card is one that may appeal to frequent travelers. For the first 25 months you have the card, you can earn 1,000 bonus miles each month that you make a purchase. As a plus, there’s no limit to the number of miles you can accumulate.
As for balance transfers and purchases, Escape by Discover has an introductory APR of 0% for 6 months, then the rate adjusts to a regular low rate of 11.99% variable, depending on your credit record.
Although some rewards programs limit your travel booking options, with Escape by Discover, you can book through any online travel site, travel agent, or airline. In addition, you can accrue 2 miles for each $1 that you spend in purchases.
Other benefits include car rental insurance, lost or damaged luggage insurance, travel delay insurance, and trip cancellation insurance. Note that this card charges a $60 annual fee, but if you travel a lot, the rewards and miles that you earn can offset its cost.
Discover Motiva Card
This card is touted as the card for good credit management. Pay your bill on time for 6 months and you can earn your next month’s interest back as a Pay-On-Time Bonus. Having this option twice a year can be a good incentive to sign up for an automatic payment system of some sort. Plus there’s no annual fee.
On balance transfers, you can be charged 3.99% APR for a year. On purchases, it’s a 3.99% APR for 6 months, but when the promotional periods are over, then it’s 11.99% variable.
Like the other cards, buying through ShopDiscover can earn you rewards amounting to 5% to 20% cash back on your purchases. For everything else, you’ll receive a 1% cash back bonus.
Miles by Discover Card
This card is another one geared towards travel rewards. During the first year you have it, you can earn 1,000 miles for each month you make purchases, totaling 12,000 bonus miles. For both balance transfers and new purchases, you get a 0% APR for 6 months. After that, the rate adjusts to an 11.99% variable APR.
There’s no annual fee for Miles by Discover. Purchases through ShopDiscover can earn you double miles, and you have fraud protection as well. For the first $3,000 you make in purchases for travel and restaurants, it’s possible to earn double miles. And for all other purchases, it’s 1 mile for each dollar you spend.
Discover Student Credit Card
This card is an option for those students who are starting to establish credit. Using this card is a great way to build your good credit history. There’s a 0% APR for 6 months, then it’s 14.99% variable after that. Even better, there’s no annual fee for this card.
Just like with many of the other Discover cards, it’s possible to earn up to 5% cash back if you sign up for a Discover Student Credit Card. Plus you can earn 1% cash back on your everyday purchases automatically, and you can earn 5% to 20% in cash back bonuses by shopping online at ShopDiscover.
Before you sign up for a Discover Card or any other form of credit, check out the APRs and see if you need to pay annual fees so you aren’t surprised later.
